About David McLaughlin

Hello. I'm David McLaughlin, a software engineer from Glasgow, Scotland but now based in Berlin, Germany. I graduated from Strathclyde University with a degree in Computer Science in the summer of 2005 and then immediately moved into full time employment with the web company s1 - a multi award winning internet brand based in the heart of Glasgow. I went through no less than four job titles at the company, ending up as a Software Architect before leaving in August 2009 to work for Nokia.

At Nokia I was hired as a JavaScript specialist for the location search team and I am now part of the frameworks team, working primarily as a JavaScript developer but also flirting with the Java framework which provides the geosearch engine for Nokia's maps products (and others).

Outside of work, most of my personal projects have been coded up in dynamic scripting languages like Perl, Python and JavaScript. These include Collective Zine, my band website, this blog and my soon-to-be-launched MMA prediction game.

During my time at University I started a DIY punk band with some friends which we still strive to make time for in between our jobs. We have released three records and played quite a lot of shows all over the UK. My duties in the band have included singing, shouting and screaming, writing lyrics, creating our artwork and designing our gig posters.
