About Me

I’m a 23 year old web developer from Glasgow, Scotland. I graduated from Strathclyde University with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2005. My final year project as part of my degree was a content management system called Panda Distro written in PHP and JavaScript. Although I would later abandon work on the project, several music distribution sites (physical copies, not digital) used the software for a couple of years and at least one still does.

After graduating I went immediately into full-time employment as a junior developer with s1now, one of the most prestigious online brands in Scotland. A fifth of the Scottish working population visits s1jobs every month and the brand has won numerous awards for the excellence of its online applications and marketing. After three years at the company I’ve attained the position of senior software developer within the team and the technical lead of s1jobs. I’ve written applications in PHP and ActionScript at s1, but my typical day to day work mainly involves Perl and JavaScript.

Outside of work I’m a member of the punk band Mesa Verde. We’ve been playing and recording since 2004 and as part of that community I’ve been involved with several freelance projects, most notably my work on the CMS for Collective Zine between 2006 and 2008. I was involved in every level of the website from Photoshop to the PHP/MySQL backend to the SEO that generates a huge portion of the site’s traffic.

I’ve been taking freelance work since early 2008 and have completed several PHP and JavaScript projects for the Glasgow-based design agency Atalanta. If you’d like to contact me with business or consultancy opportunities, please contact me at david@dmclaughlin.com.
